Group Training
Lake Placid 2005 Road Trip

In July of 2005, 20+ Team Z'ers trekked to Lake Placid for a long weekend of enjoying the Adirondack scenery while training and cheering for the 2005 Ironman USA participants.

How Our Group Training Makes This Team Work
Coach Ed works very hard to make sure that each Team Z'er can't help but feel part of a team, regardless of the training program the Team Z'er chooses to follow, his/her current training ability or his/her past endurance training experience. For example, weekend group workout start times are staggered so that all groups finish at the about the same time just before we stretch as a group and grab coffee as a team. All monthly training schedules are coordinated such that each program is executing the same type of workout, at the same time of day, on the same day of the week.

Weekend1 "Long" Rides and Runs"
As workouts increase in length, Coach Ed schedules long rides and runs based on time versus distance. While achieving all training objectives and goals, this method of assigning training duration ensures that all athletes, regardless of background or ability, will start and finish every workout together.

Weekend long rides and runs locations are chosen on a rotational basis. The focus is to find fun and interesting places to ride and run and to match specific types of terrain that will meet your training objectives.

Weekly Track Workouts
Track workouts (or running/jogging on a track) are perfect for group training activities. It does not matter how fast you are going, you will never be running more than 400 meters away from anyone! It is a perfect opportunity to train at YOUR pace, following YOUR specific training plan, and still maintaining the ability to build relationships with your teammates and coach.

Weekly Swim Practices
Swim Practices are also a perfect place to participate in group training. Coach Ed organizes the pool into different pace groups matched to ability. You can be assured that no matter what speed or training program fits your goals and objectives that each Team Z'er will have several people of the same ability swimming within feet of them.

Winter Spin Classes
Winter Spin Sessions on the bike are in the works for 2006. Depending on availability of a training space (currently being researched), spin classes will be held weekly on Wednesday nights. While these workouts require that you own your own trainer*, they are a perfect way to get to know your teammates and stay motivated. Each spin session also allows a perfect opportunity for Coach Ed to provide technique help and continue to motivate you.

* A trainer is a 'device' that you place the rear wheel of your own bike in, allowing you to ride indoors almost like a stationary exercise bike at a gym.
