The Team Z Group Training Environment
Team Z'ers train together at regularly scheduled, optional group workouts 4-5 times a week and will rotate depending on the season, training objectives, and work schedules. Team Z'ers also train together on an ad hoc basis on days without group scheduled workouts, or when they are not able to make it to team workouts. Our all-hands team workouts occur every Saturday and Sunday, year round. These workouts are scheduled at rotating locations to introduce people to new and interesting places to train (e.g. Sky Meadow state park or something like that), as well as to match specific terrain required to achieve training objectives.
A Social Organization With A Major Triathlon Problem
Our group training goes beyond the regular "ready go" and "ready go home" environment of most organized training programs. After group workouts it is the norm to grab a bite of grub, a beer, or just a cup of Java at the local Starbucks. We are, you could say, a social organization with a major triathlon problem!
We carpool to training, travel to races together, socialize constantly, and sometimes even vacation together. Team Z' ers are the types who wake up early on a Saturday morning, ride our bikes through some killer country side scenery, then break out the "road trip grills" as we mow burgers and shrimps fresh off the grill while enjoying a frosty cold beverage. We take training trips together such as a camping road trip to the eastern shore (yes, we slept in tents and roasted marshmallows) with a specific purpose of previewing a race course and practicing training and racing strategies in the open water. |
